Using Technology to Enhance a Student-Centered Culture

Larry Cunningham

Nearly every law school prides itself on being student-centered through open door policies, a commitment to outcomes, and an array of support services. Technology can help a school become even more student-centered and accessible. At Charleston School of Law, we are especially proud of our student-centric culture. One of the ways we have developed that culture is through the use of technology to meet students “where they are.” In this session, I will discuss how the adoption of simple technology tools can help advance the student experience. These include the use of appointment scheduling software, an attendance tracking application, kiosks, an “online student center,” regular (but not too frequent) use of surveys, and, of course, CALI’s resources. These technology tools complement, not replace, the one-on-one interaction that is so important to the law school experience.
