Deb Quentel

Director of Curriculum Development & Associate Counsel

Deb Quentel has been the Director of Curriculum Development & Associate Counsel at CALI® since 1997. Deb is all about content. She has overseen over a dozen Fellowships and “inspired” faculty and law librarians to create more than 900 online interactive tutorials, known as “CALI Lessons.” In addition to lessons, Deb and her colleagues have worked with faculty to publish more than 30 open education resource casebooks through CALI’s eLangdell® Press.

When not working at CALI, Deb teaches and performs improvisational theater. Deb’s unique blend of 40 years of improvisational theater experience and her extensive legal education background has led to her creating and leading a workshop for law students. This innovative workshop, a part of the curriculum at Chicago-Kent College of Law’s course, “Oral Advocacy for the Intellectual Property Lawyer,” focuses on enhancing students’ communication and listening skills and equipping them to effectively and confidently use the law and facts in client-serving situations such as negotiations or oral argument.

Previous jobs have included Visiting Assistant Professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Executive Director of a legal aid organization, associate at a Chicago law firm, and ice cream vendor from a bicycle push-cart. A proud product of Wisconsin public schools, Deb has a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin, an M.S. in Distance Education Leadership, Distance Learning & Education (University of Wisconsin-Platteville), and a Bachelor of Music Percussion Performance (University of Wisconsin-Madison).
